George Soros says Brexit has made the disintegration of the EU practically irreversibleThe billionaire went as far as saying the UK itself 'may not survive' the decisionhttp://www.independent.co.uk/news/business/news/george-soros-says-brexit-has-made-the-disintegration-of-the-eu-practically-irreversible-a7105321.html

... Our democracy does not allow, much less require, decision-making by referendum. That role belongs to the representatives of the people and not to the people themselves. Democracy has never meant the tyranny of the simple majority, much less the tyranny of the mob (otherwise, we might still have capital punishment). Democracy entails an elected government, subject to certain checks and balances such as the common law and the courts, and an executive ultimately responsible to parliament, whose members are entitled to vote according to conscience and common sense...
Before making a statement at Holyrood on Tuesday on the implications for Scotland of last week’s Brexit vote, where the UK overall opted to leave the EU while Scotland voted 62% to 38% to stay in, the first minister said she wanted its mandate to reinforce her hand in those talks. With the first wave of post-EU referendum opinion polls showing only a modest rise in support for independence and ambivalence about a fresh referendum, Sturgeon is keen to investigate options for some form of “associate” status for Scotland in the EU while it remains in the UK, to preserve Scotland’s access to the single market and wider EU benefits.“I am now determined to explore every avenue to retain Scotland’s EU status, and Tuesday’s parliamentary debate is a vital part of that process,” she said, adding: “It is now crucial that our national parliament speaks with as strong and united a voice as possible on this issue.”
