Aquí no rige.

Y en la zona euro también. Del link anterior:

Broad monetary aggregate M3 in the Euro Area advanced by 6.3% year-on-year to EUR 16174 in September of 2022, following a 6.1% rise in the previous month and above market forecasts of 6.1%. However, this increase was driven by a one-off technical factor, without which the annual growth rate of M3 would have declined to around 5.8% in September 2022

LOOK OUT. Inventory on For Sale and Rental Market is exploding at the same time. 📈

This is called a "Double Housing Crash". Where there's a simultaneous collapse in Buyer AND Renter Demand.

Real Estate Investors are panicking right now. They weren't prepared for this.

1) The simple reality is that Americans can't afford to either Buy or Rent right now. Which is resulting in something called "Household Consolidation". Where people move in with friends or family.

Americans Eye European Colleges To Save Money On Tuition
Posted by BeauHD on Friday October 28, 2022 @09:00AM from the rising-costs dept.

An anonymous reader quotes a report from Bloomberg:
Citar
Surging US tuition costs have more American parents sending their children to college in Europe as they look to save money on higher education. What once was a niche opportunity for wealthy families looking to add some flair to their kids' resumes is now becoming increasingly common as tuition and fees climb in the US, stretching budgets that are already getting hit by inflation and rising housing costs. In France, the number of American students surged 50% in the 2021-22 school year compared to the previous year; there was a 16% gain in the Netherlands, while the UK saw a 28% surge in applicants this year compared to 2020. Google searches for "College in Europe" hit a three-year high in August and have remained elevated as college application season ramps up.

Living abroad comes with its own expenses and hassles, but parents have many reasons for sending their kids to school overseas. Some mention the less stressful application process, access to different cultures and the ability to travel. But money is perhaps the biggest factor. The average cost for college tuition has more doubled in the past two decades, hitting $35,551 in 2022, according to the Education Data Initiative. Top schools, including in the Ivy League, charge far more. While President Joe Biden's loan forgiveness program will offer graduates some reprieve, crippling student debt is fueling a backlash against the prices of higher education. Tuition for international students in Europe, meanwhile, is free at most German universities, costs $2,778 a year in France and as much as 15,000 euros in the Netherlands. In the UK, an undergraduate will pay about $40,516 a year to study English at Oxford, while the University of St Andrews runs more than 26,000 pounds. But students in Europe typically get their degrees in three years, not four.
"Besides the less stressful application process, Americans' chances abroad are also a lot better," adds Bloomberg. "While top US schools like Harvard and Stanford have acceptance rates in the low single digits, about 14% of students get into Oxford and 41% get into the University of Saint Andrews, two of the most popular options for Americans."
Saludos.

Fed expected to aggressively hike rates to 5%, triggering global recession: survey

Fed likely to hike interest rates by 75 basis points at next week's meeting, survey shows

Federal Reserve officials are expected to maintain their hawkish stance at next week's policy-setting meeting where they are likely to approve another super-sized interest rate hike, paving the way for borrowing costs to climb above 5% by March 2023, according to a survey of Bloomberg economists.

The survey found that most respondents expect the Fed to raise rates by 75 basis points for a fourth straight meeting. The Federal Open Market Committee will announce their decision following a two-day meeting on Nov. 1 and 2. A basis point is one hundredth of one percent.

The U.S. central bank will then approve a 50 basis point increase in December, followed by 25 basis point increases at the following two meetings in February in March, participants predicted. The rapid tightening of policy is likely to trigger a U.S and global recession, according to the survey. (...)

How to make free money less attractive in a credit crunch

Europe’s unevenly distributed €2.1tn TLTRO problem

(...)Another thing to remember is that capital buffers reserves across the European banking sector are ridiculously fat:

Nevertheless, signs of tighter wholesale funding are badly timed for the ECB, which needs to scale back its pandemic-era loan subsidy known as targeted longer term refinancing operations. Banks can borrow through the TLTRO almost for nothing then park their excess liquidity at the ECB’s overnight deposit facility, which pays 0.75 per cent at the moment.

About €1.1tn of the €2.1tn in outstanding TLTRO loans have been used for ECB deposit arbitrage, Barclays estimates. Keeping the scheme in current form at higher rates would mean the ECB pays around €110bn to euro area banks over the next 12 months, for very little reason.

But with two-thirds or thereabouts of TLTROs repayable in the first half of 2023, a full withdrawal would represent a cliff-edge risk for periphery economies in particular:

The ECB might reduce the attractiveness of TLTRO arbitrage by repricing outstanding loans to match its deposit rate. Or it might apply some kind of tiering threshold on parked reserves. The simple way to approach tiering would be to exempt a percentage of TLTRO borrowing from deposit interest — but that might throttle liquidity in Italy and Spain, as well as creating very little incentive to pay loans back.

A tricksier solution would be to avoid direct action, and use Swiss National Bank-style reverse-tiering, whereby deposit interest will no longer be paid on liquidity in excess of some arbitrary threshold. Overfunded banks would be encouraged to pay back their TLTROs to avoid the effective penalty, while underfunded ones would still have access to the carry trade.

Here’s how that looks across the zone with the threshold set at 6 times minimum required reserves, and again at 25 times.

Too complicated? Too political? Right now, given everything, probably. So analysts expect nothing more this week than some light tweaking of the deposit terms and conditions. Here’s Barclays:

Citar
We think the ECB is likely to intervene directly as reverse-tiering would carry a greater risk of impairing the transmission of monetary policy. With circa 65 per cent of TLTRO borrowing set to mature by June 2023, which will reduce the liquidity surplus, we think the least disruptive strategy for the ECB would be to simply wait.

David Rosenberg: Canada's housing bubble has burst — now brace yourself for the economic hit

Canada’s housing bubble has burst. The MLS house price index is now down nine per cent from last February’s peak en route to a 30 per cent or so decline, which we view as consistent with deteriorating affordability and the uber-aggressive tightening of monetary policy by the Bank of Canada. (...)

Households are being hit with a confluence of factors heading into this recession: rapid restrictions on credit access, higher debt-servicing costs on near-record-high household debt levels and inflation limiting disposable income. This is all being compounded by wealth depletion in both equity and residential markets, which also weigh on sentiment.

The last time all these factors were at play was the early 1990s, when Canada entered a Bank of Canada-induced recession and residential property prices fell by almost 30 per cent from their peak between 1989-1996.(...)

Scholz and Macron threaten trade retaliation against Biden

France and Germany want to negotiate with Washington about unfair competition — but they are ready to hit back if necessary.

BERLIN/PARIS — After publicly falling out, Olaf Scholz and Emmanuel Macron have found something they agree on: mounting alarm over unfair competition from the U.S. and the potential need for Europe to hit back.

The German chancellor and the French president discussed their joint concerns during nearly three-and-a-half hours of talks over a lunch of fish, wine and Champagne in Paris on Wednesday.

They agreed that recent American state subsidy plans represent market-distorting measures that aim to convince companies to shift their production to the U.S., according to people familiar with their discussions. And that is a problem they want the European Union to address.
