Tesla Stock Hits 'Funding Secured' $420 PricePosted by BeauHD on Monday December 23, 2019 @06:30PM from the Elon-gets-the-last-laugh dept.140Mandak262Jamuna writes:CitarElon Musk tweeted he had secured funding to take Tesla private at a share price of $420 right in the middle of a trading day in August 2018, without any prior approval from the board of directors. The plan fell through, SEC fined him and the company $20 million each and forced him to step down as Chairman.The stock touched a low of $178 in Jun 2019 and it has been rising steadily and it has been on a tear in the last few trading days of the year. It briefly went above $420 today, touching a maximum of $422 and closing quite close to $420. Ihor Dusaniwsky of S3 Partners (a company that tracks short trades of hundreds of securities) is reporting that the people who sold the stock are finally being squeezed. They were $5.20 billion in YTD profit in the first week of June 2019 and have lost $7.3 billion in the last six months. Tesla supporters are euphoric and are lighting up twitterverse with lots of taunting messages directed at the shorts.

Tesla rebaja el precio de su Modelo 3 hecho en China antes de la entregaEl fabricante estadounidense de vehículos eléctricos Tesla (NASDAQ:TSLA) Inc redujo el precio inicial de sus sedanes Modelo 3 hechos en China en un 16% a 299.050 yuanes (42.919 dólares) después de recibir subsidios de Pekín para vehículos eléctricos, según su página web en China.La reducción, parcialmente gracias a subsidios por 24.750 yuanes, desde un precio previo de 355.800 yuanes es parte de una serie de ajustes que Tesla ha hecho a su política de ventas en China […].Tesla dijo que un 30% de su cadena de suministros en China es local, lo que significa que algunas partes son enviadas al gigante asiático para construir sus vehículos. Sony surprises with an electric concept car called the Vision-S84Wait, what?Sony just made what might be one of the biggest surprise announcements at this year’s CES: a car. Called the Sony Vision-S, it’s an electric concept sedan that is meant to showcase the Japanese tech conglomerate’s many different strengths, from entertainment products to camera sensors and more.In fact, the Vision-S features 33 different sensors inside and outside of the car, multiple widescreen displays, 360 audio, and always-on connectivity, with some pieces coming from industry players like BlackBerry and Bosch. It’s also powered by a “newly-designed EV platform” — which appears to have been engineered by automotive supplier Magna — that Sony says will be able to power other vehicle types, like SUVs.{...}

No, Tesla Is NOT the Largest US Automaker EverPosted by BeauHD on Wednesday January 08, 2020 @07:45PM from the don't-get-too-excited dept.An anonymous reader shares an excerpt from a CleanTechnica report:CitarOver the last couple of days, as Tesla continues on this monstrous run, the media seems to have been noting that Tesla is now more valuable than any U.S. automaker's market cap ever. (Tesla is currently almost exactly the market cap of Ford and GM combined, around $88 billion.) Even though I would now plant myself firmly in the "bull" camp, this is completely untrue, and I think it paints a problematic picture of Tesla. Let's get right to it -- Tesla is not the most valuable U.S. automaker ever because Tesla's market cap does not have just Tesla automobiles in it.Currently, especially to outsiders, Tesla's automobiles are the most visible aspect of its business. The problem is Tesla's business is so much more diverse and will affect so many other major industries in the future that calling Tesla an automaker is akin to saying that Google is the most valuable phone company. Sure, Google makes phones, but taking just that aspect of its business into account while ignoring the rest and then claiming it's the most valuable phone company is a mistake at best, and deceitful at worst. I sort of get it. GM doesn't produce HDTVs and Ford doesn't have a wing that runs theme parks or something, so a lot of "analysts" think of Tesla in a similar, narrow-minded way and think Tesla should only be valued based on its automobile business.Tesla's valuation includes its energy (solar and battery) division, autonomy business, and Supercharger network, which is "currently the only capable, nationwide electric vehicle 'refueling' standard," the report says. After you deduct the valuations of those divisions, Tesla becomes "a $30 billion automaker," which makes it "currently the smallest U.S.-based automaker."In conclusion, CleanTechnica's Frugal Moogal writes: "My point is simply this -- if you're out there parading around the fact that Tesla is the most valuable U.S. automaker ever, you're missing the bigger point. The market is starting to value the rest of Tesla's business, and what I think we're seeing is the beginning of the largest vertically integrated energy and transportation company."

Tesla Is Making Use Of The Open-Source Coreboot Within Their Electric VehiclesWritten by Michael Larabel in Coreboot on 14 January 2020 at 02:00 PM EST.Not only is Linux increasingly used within automobiles but it turns out at least one automobile manufacturer is even using Coreboot within their vehicles.Tesla turns out to be utilizing Coreboot as part of their electric vehicle computer systems. Tesla Motors' open-source portal on GitHub is hosting a Coreboot repository with a big code drop having happened at the start of the new year.The new code added on top of the Coreboot source tree is from Tesla Motors and Samsung. Samsung manufacturers the company's current full self-driving (FSD) chip.The Coreboot code does reference a "Turbo TRAV" SoC and "Turbo Sentinel" motherboard as the new targets to which I haven't been able to find much on these codenames.The Coreboot implementation is ultimately for initializing the hardware and booting the Linux kernel as a replacement to the conventional proprietary BIOS.Tesla's public Linux kernel tree meanwhile continues tracking dated Linux 3.x and 4.x kernel branches for Intel and NVIDIA Tegra platforms.In any case, great seeing continued open-source activity out of Tesla.
Is Making Use Of The Open-Source Coreboot Within Their Electric VehiclesWritten by Michael Larabel in Coreboot on 14 January 2020 at 02:00 PM EST.Not only is Linux increasingly used within automobiles but it turns out at least one automobile manufacturer is even using Coreboot within their vehicles.Tesla turns out to be utilizing Coreboot as part of their electric vehicle computer systems. Saludos.
